Our staff work hand in hand with parents, carers and outside agencies to ensure we are providing a safe and secure environment. We will do our utmost to enable our children to have a smooth transition from hone to nursery and from nursery to school.

Our settling in period can be very varied depending on the need of the child and the parents. Our tooth brushing programme is now well established and has been in place for 10 months and our children have embraced this with great delight. Our staff had all had training from Laura our Oral Health Promoter.

Another Oral Health Promoter Carol Boag came to see how we were doing and said she was very impressed as our 2-3’s could tell her the colour and symbol for their brush. We also do tooth brushing in our baby room. We have informed parents and carers about our tooth brushing and have given information through our News Letter and general chat.

We have also made and supplied Tooth brushing charts to allow parents to carry on at home encouraging consistency between home and nursery. Our Healthy Eating Policy is encouraging parents and carers to pack healthy nutritional food for lunch time and we only serve water, milk or fruit at snack. When we do baking we are doing more savoury recipes, when making cakes or scones we sweeten with dried fruit. For physical activities we have a trampoline, soft play, bikes, hoppers etc. we also have regular visits to Fun World and we are usually out and about in the community visiting our local shops library etc. where we stock up on our supplies. We have a large grassy area that we use a lot and we like to take our parachute there as there is plenty of room to play.

In our baby room each child has their own blanket embroidered with their name to avoid any confusion, and their own cup this helps with infection control. On outings when sunny we supply sun cream though some parents will bring their own. For medication each child has their own medication sheet in their file and if prscribed medicine is requested two staff members must check that the correct dosage is administered. We also have introduced a Potty Training Programme again using charts and sending these home to allow parents to continue this.
